TED: ideas worth spreading

September 15th, 2007

Today starts the beginning of a possibly very interesting piece of inspiration for you, our dear reader.

Let us introduce to you TED. This is not your run-of-the-mill next-door friendly neighbour. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has even become broader.

Their mission is about spreading ideas. They do so by showcasing the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes at the annual TED conference.

Then there is the TED Prize. Designed to leverage the TED Community’s exceptional array of talent and resources, it is annually given to three individuals. These winners receive $100,000 and the granting of “One Wish to Change the World”. After several months of preparation, they unveil their wish at an award ceremony held during the TED Conference. These Wishes have led to collaborative initiatives with far-reaching impact.

In recent years, design technology has advanced way beyond one’s imagination. With demand for greater 3D realistic images, powerful animations and more designer products increasing, a good knowledge in design programs is needed to survive in the design industry today. So Studio469 will look into what computer design programs today’s range of designers use to survive in the design scene. It is time for yet another Design Discovery! Read the rest of this entry »

Creative Columns #13: Fuck The System

September 5th, 2007

ladies and gentlemen, it is time to fuck the system. and i am already doing so by saying the word ‘fuck’ [469's lawyers already filing class-action lawsuits: ‘oh boy, he is f****d now…’]

before we starting using one of societies favorite words in a verbal sense, let me tell you what this thing called ‘the system’ actually is all about.

the system. think the matrix but without all those nasty snot-filled bathtubs and a little less green. it is like this huge invisible system holding you back, inventing rules, coming up with barriers and borders. just making it impossible for you to be fully creative and, more important, free.

now that you are warmed up it is time to follow the red rabbit with the horns down his hole and get this show on the road… Read the rest of this entry »

Adobe Kuler: Autumn 2007 Theme Drive

August 31st, 2007

Kuler theme

We’ve mentioned Adobe Kuler before. The space where you can create and share colour themes for use in Adobe programs.

At the moment Adobe is running “theme drive” to collect autumn-inspired themes. Kuler members can submit themes around the autumn season and also “vote” for themes by rating and downloading them. At the end of the drive, the kuler team will select a few of the highest rated and most popular autumn themes to appear on a kuler t-shirt.

Check the terms and conditions, to see if you’re up for the challenge.
