Inspiring Artist: Ora Ito

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

OraItoLogoWhen we were looking at Ora Ito’s designs and his concepts, it’s his approach to conceptual design and ideation that we found inspiring. Ora comes up with concepts for big established brands, the presentation of his concepts is of such a realistic level that people want to order his products.

OraIto

Ora Ito is a French designer who made his mark by designing virtual products for real brands like Apple and Louis Vuitton. His first launch of virtual products the Hack-Mac Laptop and Louis Vuitton bag looked so good that people wanted to order the products. Eventually, the companies embraced the designes into their product line, an interesting approach to conceptual design and a way to make name as young artists.

The Hack-Mac concept, which hasn’t been taken into production by Apple at this point, however don’t be surprised if you see a navy seal with this slick comouflaged product.

Born in 1977 in Marseille, France, his actual name is Ito Morabito. A true design visionary who believes in the concept of “simplexity”, his product designs are simple but yet intrinsically complex in character. His design of the OGO water bottle is such an example, Ora has kept the simple sphere shape which symbolises the essence of oxygen. The contents of this bottle is actually oxygen-enriched water. Interesting detail is the printed descriptions on the back of the bottle, which is mirrored allowing the text to be read by looking through the bottle, the sphere functions as a magnifying glass.

A word of advice from Ora Ito himself:

Don’t complain about yourself, so many people say: “oh I don’t have money, I am not famous, oh I don’t have this and I don’t have this” like what nike says: “just do it” make it exist, if it is nice it will be recognised and people will help you to make it, just do it, make it, even if just on paper, at least it exists.

Tip of the Month: “Don’t Get Bored”

Saturday, October 21st, 2006

just don’t [the anti-nike campaign].

boredom is nothing more than you not wanting to commit to your work.
so go do something, anything. just do it! then you’ll be un-bored by no time. just try not to stick with anti-work stuff for too long, there still remains the dreaded deadline. get back to work in time!

boredom is an excuse, end of story, period.

WeeklyMustSee6IANFRANCIS

Ian Francis was born in 1979 in Bristol, England, and graduated from the University of the West of England with a degree in Illustration. His work concentrates on the particulars of modern experiences — things like television, world events, celebrities, and day-to-day living. It’s about pornography and news reports from war zones rather than sex and death. Francis’ technique combines painting, drawing, and photography, layered together and heavily edited in Photoshop.

Weekly Must See #5

Friday, October 6th, 2006

Have we already arrived at the weekly must see #5? Yes we did!

Ok ok, enough of the sillyness, let’s get right down to the nitty gritty. This weeks must see is the website of Van der Haeghe Alexis. Born in Belgium but currently working in London at Framestore CFC. He studied Computer Graphics at the Albert Jacquard high-school, Namur, Belgium. His 2D gallery is impressive, but his 3D rendered gallery with stills and animations really shows you what he can do. So surf over the his website and see what you can reach with hard work.

Tip of the Month: “Random at Wikipedia”

Sunday, September 17th, 2006

try the “random article”-button located at the left navigation at wikipedia, you just might run into some form of stimulation (although it usually takes a shit-load of articles to process before you find something useful)
