Inspiring Artist: Ora Ito

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

OraItoLogoWhen we were looking at Ora Ito’s designs and his concepts, it’s his approach to conceptual design and ideation that we found inspiring. Ora comes up with concepts for big established brands, the presentation of his concepts is of such a realistic level that people want to order his products.

OraIto

Ora Ito is a French designer who made his mark by designing virtual products for real brands like Apple and Louis Vuitton. His first launch of virtual products the Hack-Mac Laptop and Louis Vuitton bag looked so good that people wanted to order the products. Eventually, the companies embraced the designes into their product line, an interesting approach to conceptual design and a way to make name as young artists.

The Hack-Mac concept, which hasn’t been taken into production by Apple at this point, however don’t be surprised if you see a navy seal with this slick comouflaged product.

Born in 1977 in Marseille, France, his actual name is Ito Morabito. A true design visionary who believes in the concept of “simplexity”, his product designs are simple but yet intrinsically complex in character. His design of the OGO water bottle is such an example, Ora has kept the simple sphere shape which symbolises the essence of oxygen. The contents of this bottle is actually oxygen-enriched water. Interesting detail is the printed descriptions on the back of the bottle, which is mirrored allowing the text to be read by looking through the bottle, the sphere functions as a magnifying glass.

A word of advice from Ora Ito himself:

Don’t complain about yourself, so many people say: “oh I don’t have money, I am not famous, oh I don’t have this and I don’t have this” like what nike says: “just do it” make it exist, if it is nice it will be recognised and people will help you to make it, just do it, make it, even if just on paper, at least it exists.
