Studio469 - Inspiration to your doorstep

Featured: Jordi Labanda

Monday, May 7th, 2007

Looking at the sophisticated fashion design style of such sleek, sensuous and beautiful women, who would have thought, that it is a man who created this signature style that became a renowned brand design - Jordi Labanda.

Jordi Labanda Bag

A high-end fashion illustrator born in Uruguay in 1968, who now lives in Barcelona, Spain. Jordi Labanda obtained his degree in Industrial Design, and then started his work as a commercial illustrator in 1993. Working exclusively in gouache on paper, his designs depict a very unique upclass style - featuring classic contemporary feminine characters and settings in a lavish style, which reflects a new concept of modernity. From his graphics, he married his graphic design skills with his industrial design training to produce new product lines that transform his signature designs to a wide range of sensuous design accessories -notebooks, folders, address books, mouse pads, metal cd cases, high quality vinyl handbags, makeup cases, and sunglass cases.

A very strategic move he ventured into to brand his own style of graphic product designs, his product range was a huge success. Jordi Labanda’s products are one of the hottest accessory product lines in Europe, and a growing craze in America and Asia. His graphic and product designs are featured in many women’s magazines (Seventeen, Marie Claire, Wallpaper, Allure, Elle, Vogue, CosmoGIRL, Details, Abercrombie & Fitch, Covergirl). Compiling his graphic and product design works, Jordi has also published a collection of them in his first book, called “Hey day”.

A truly modern designer of today that understands the beauty of women, fashion and class, that I admire from a woman’s point of view.

Art. Lebedev’s Optimus Maximus Design Process

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Some time has passed since our last post on the Optimus Concepts from one of Russia’s best design studio’s: Art. Lebedev. This time we will provide you with the full process of how the idea came to be the product. Designers: it is time to start drooling!

optmax1.jpg

About 15 years ago Artemy Lebedev was sitting in front of his computer, most likely working on something cool, continuously irritated by the dead feedback from his keyboard (we admit; it is just a thought. Artemy; correct us if we were wrong). He asked himself why a keyboard could not have multiple functions for each key, and be able to show these functionalities. Enter the Optimus Concept: a keyboard with displays in each key, being able to show not only a single character or image, but any character or image corresponding with the function you wish that key to have.

workingday-copy.jpg

For more than 10 years this concept remained a concept until one day Artemy decided it was time to stun the world with his ideas on the keyboards of the future. Although “reliable sources” (Artemy was not the only one at CeBit, we were there too) claimed that if he didn’t start this publicity stunt other competitors would have taken over. It was the mass (geek-) appeal that started the fame. And thus the fire began to spread.

Read on for all the details on the work that went on behind the (iron) curtain in developing what is now known as Optimus Maximus. And please; prepare yourself for some serious visual material!
