Designer Tools #2: Panography - stitch those pictures!

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

Do you ever look up at the sky, a towering office building, or an expansive landscape and wish your photos could capture everything you can see with your eyes? We do.Our pal Mareen does this neat thing she calls panography. Taking dozens of photos of a scene, she assembles a patchwork of images that more accurately represents what your eyes see when you’re not looking through a viewfinder.

Call it super wide-angle panorama or call it panography, we think it’s awesome.

Designer Tools #1: Artwork & Picture organiser

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

He creative folks, are you also creating a lot of content, cool pictures, renderings, artwork, posters and more… don’t you ever lose something?

We use picassa because it’s so much easier and better then using windows to go thru all your files, and waiting for previews to load. The free software automaticly adds new work to your library, it just works. If you have a lot of artwork & pictures, you should give it a try.

Picassa allows you to do a couple of things very easily:

- create albums, label your work (each project as one album)
- manage artwork (rotate, scale, photo effects etc.)
- view artwork in slide shows (show to client or friends)
- share your artwork (to your weblog, to friends or even clients)

Check it out:

Example of how to use picasa to make simple artwork collage:

Search for your artwork, use tags, or select an album:

Overview of search results in picasa

Select a number of pictures or artwork, and press the collage button:

Different Functions

The result of 1 minute work, is a ready to present piece of work, to a client or just for fun with friends:

Simple collage

Download it here:

It’s very easy to make these visualizations, browse and organise your artwork, pictures and videos, and the user interface is not that bad.

The time line function is nice but could do with some graphic improvements.

Another tool to make your design life easier.
