Weekly Must See #56: Alexandre Duret-Lutz aka gadl

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

It’s a very good sign if we have a tough time finding the best picture to use for promoting a certain artist at our Weekly Must See. This time we cannot even begin to express how hard it was to find a good one. Here’s the deal: Alexandre Duret-Lutz shoots photos, lots of photos. And he enjoys using software to toy with his work. One of these products are his stereographic projection panoramas, or as he likes to call them: Wee Planets. And these are definitely worth viewing, all 189 of them. You can find tutorial-like information on his Flickr page (where he’s known as gadl) as well as some more interesting things he does. Trust us as we say: you really want to check out all of his work!

Marketing Monday #10: What is Marketing?

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Yes there is the dirty word again. Marketing!!!! The M-word. But what is marketing? Most of you who finished high school will come up with, the 4p’s. Price, place, product and promotion. The attention-paying-ones probably even dare to mention the Marketing Mix (4p’s mixed together). And guess what, I just gonna agree with them, these are facets of marketing.

But marketing has more to bring. The 4p’s and the Marketing Mix are most known since Kotler used them as the basis for marketing in his famous book: The Principles of Marketing. But as the name of his books says, these are just the principles.

One part computer science, one part anthropology, and one part visual art, his work seeks to explore and understand the human world through the artifacts people leave behind on the Web.

His computer programs scour the Internet for unfiltered content, which his beautiful interfaces organize to create coherence from the chaos. Head on down and watch his TEDTalk and check out the links to his most fascinating work.

Now sit back and enjoy Jonathan Harris’ TEDTalk for the next 17 minutes and 22 seconds (loading time not included).

For additional information: you can find his entire biography at his personal website; Number27, where you can also find his work. Special attention should be given to 2 of his best works: We Feel Fine and Universe.

TED: ideas worth spreading

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

Today starts the beginning of a possibly very interesting piece of inspiration for you, our dear reader.

Let us introduce to you TED. This is not your run-of-the-mill next-door friendly neighbour. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has even become broader.

TED 469 logo

Their mission is about spreading ideas. They do so by showcasing the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes at the annual TED conference.

Then there is the TED Prize. Designed to leverage the TED Community’s exceptional array of talent and resources, it is annually given to three individuals. These winners receive $100,000 and the granting of “One Wish to Change the World”. After several months of preparation, they unveil their wish at an award ceremony held during the TED Conference. These Wishes have led to collaborative initiatives with far-reaching impact.

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

In recent years, design technology has advanced way beyond one’s imagination. With demand for greater 3D realistic images, powerful animations and more designer products increasing, a good knowledge in design programs is needed to survive in the design industry today. Creative Columns #13: Fuck The System

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

ladies and gentlemen, it is time to fuck the system. and i am already doing so by saying the word ‘fuck’ [469's lawyers already filing class-action lawsuits: ‘oh boy, he is f****d now…’]

before we starting using one of societies favorite words in a verbal sense, let me tell you what this thing called ‘the system’ actually is all about.

13.jpg

the system. think the matrix but without all those nasty snot-filled bathtubs and a little less green. it is like this huge invisible system holding you back, inventing rules, coming up with barriers and borders. just making it impossible for you to be fully creative and, more important, free.

now that you are warmed up it is time to follow the red rabbit with the horns down his hole and get this show on the road… (more…)
