The long awaited 3rd generation Sony Playstation has been released in Japan.
You guys probably agree with us on the fact that the Playstation looks like a high-rise building. But if you compare it to it’s older brother the Playstation 2, or even the more recent Xbox 360, it stands it’s ground. It’s fully packed with all the features for the hardcore gamer: HDTV Output, Blu-Ray Discs, and even the IBM Cell processor, that burns all competition, while keeping itself cool.
But we wouldn’t be 469 if we didn’t see it’s real potential. Take a good look at these screenshots, and then take a good look at the last 3d renderings you saw, or even better, you made. This little (big actually) jewel has more in common with 3D rendering suites like
Autodesk 3D Studio Max or
Newtek Lightwave, than an actual console. Sony is keeping us a little in the grey about the actual capabilities of the processing unit, but we can clearly see the Global Illumination, Radiosity and real-time motion blurs.
Now the only thing we have to do is wait till one clever guy finds a way to render realtime on this beauty, and we can all sit back and relax while we watch our 3d animations in real-time. Of course there are other ways to do this, but every time this means you have to open up your wallet further and further. We at Studio469 for one can’t wait till it’s released in the rest of the world to give this puppy a long walk in the park.
